We often like to think of our athletes as larger-than-life, and invincible. However, recent incidents such as Fabrice Muamba's collapse during a game in the English Premier League remind us that they're not. Though he is still in the hospital, he does seem to be improving and is being watched around the clock.
As we await further news of Muamba's fate, we remember a few other athletes that couldn't survive their injuries, as well as others who have had near-death experiences.
