Boxing:Katie Taylor has described her qualification for the London Olympic Games as a “dream come true” after making the semi-finals of the AIBA World Women’s Championships in China without having to throw a punch.
- Owen and Flanigan secure Olympic berths
Sailing:Irish sailors Ger Owens and Scott Flanigan have qualified for London 2012. The pair are currently sailing at the 470 World Championships in Barcelona where an additional seven nation places are up for grabs in addition to the 20 that were allocated in 2011.
- Dalglish's future still unclear after meeting
Soccer:Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has returned from his trip to the United States to meet the club’s owners but what the outcome of their discussions will be still remains unclear.
- Kidney names squad to face Baa-Ba's
Rugby:Without the Leinster players involved in the Pro12 final the previous Sunday, Ireland coach Declan Kidney has taken the opportunity to draft seven uncapped players into his squad for the match against the Barbarians in Gloucester on May 29th.
- Di Matteo hopeful on defensive duo
Soccer:Defenders David Luiz and Gary Cahill were today set to train ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Saturday. But Florent Malouda was described as by caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo as “touch and go” for the Allianz Arena showdown.
- Henry available for Ulster
Rugby:Chris Henry has been included in an extended Ulster squad for Saturday’s Heineken Cup against Leinster. The flanker, who trained fully this morning, has not featured since injuring his ankle in against Munster in the Pro 12 last month but the province are confident of his availability come 5pm on Saturday evening.

Rugby:Retiring Munster secondrow Mick O’Driscoll believes incoming coach Rob Penney can restore the province to the top of the European game.
- Torres and Mata left out of Spain squad
Soccer:Fernando Torres and Juan Mata have been left out of the Spain squad for the upcoming friendlies against Serbia and South Korea. The Chelsea duo are absent to allow them to continue their preparations for Saturday’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
- Taylor one step closer to London
Boxing:Katie Taylor took another confident step towards the London Olympics this morning as she stopped Saida Khassenova in her tracks to reach the quarter-finals of the AIBA World Women’s Championships. The Bray fighter will have to wait to book her Olympic berth, with a win over Romania’s Mihaela Lacatus almost certain to guarantee her a spot in London.
- FAI reveal 2020 vision
Soccer:The Football Association of Ireland has expressed an interest in hosting the European Championship finals in 2020 alongside Scotland and Wales. The formal declaration of interest does not commit the three countries to proceeding with a bid, however, with a decision not due to be taken by Uefa for another 18 months.
- City apologise for Tevez banner
Soccer:Manchester City have apologised to Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson after striker Carlos Tevez held up a banner goading his former manager. Tevez has also expressed his regret after he was pictured with a sign which read 'RIP Fergie' during City's celebratory title-winning parade in Manchester.
- McCarthy cleared at disciplinary hearing
Rugby:Connacht and Ireland secondrow Mike McCarthy was cleared of a citing complaint of making contact with the eye or eye area of Glasgow Warriors lock forward, Tom Ryder, in the RaboDirect PRO12 match on May 5th, 2012 as a disciplinary hearing today in Cardiff.
