West Germany had been one of the hot favourites going into the 1976 tournament, but were beaten in a close final by neighbouring Czechoslovakia. The match was decided by penalty shootout, with Czech hero Antonin Panenka (pictured above in 2011 - still with his trademark moustache!) audaciously chipping the German keeper with one of the cheekiest spot kicks ever taken.
