The Millennium Stadium has the honour of hosting the very first event of the London 2012 Olympic Games, with the first match of the women's football tournament taking place at the venue on July 25 - two days before the official opening ceremony. Located on the banks of the River Taff in the heart of Cardiff, the stadium is also the venue for the men's football bronze-medal clash as well as group-stage matches of the Great Britain men's and women's teams. Opened in 1999, the facility has a retractable roof and is the home of the Welsh football and rugby union teams.
